Nam Tran has over 23 years of clinical chemistry, point-of-care (POC) testing, and molecular diagnostics experience. Since 2007, he has been notable in promoting network-centric / connected in vitro diagnostic devices for various settings including critical, emergency and disaster care. These concepts were extended to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) by 2019 where he was one of the first to integrate predictive analytics into POC testing. This work resulted in Dr. Tran co-inventing an automated ML platform with colleagues at UC Davis, and transformed this platform called MILO to a commercial product. In 2020, he took over as Senior Director of Clinical Pathology at UC Davis Health and led the institution’s SARS-CoV-2 testing strategy heavily leveraging various clinical informatic tools to support the pandemic response, as well as develop novel ML-based COVID-19 testing solutions.
