Pieter Vermeersch is Professor of Medicine at the University of Leuven and Clinical pathologist at the University Hospitals Leuven, He is the head of the special chemistry and mass spectrometry laboratory which performs testing for metabolic disorders, toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring, and endocrinology. His main areas of clinical expertise are metabolic disorders and cardiovascular and renal disease. As a clinical pathologist, he works to improve patient outcomes by developing state-of-the-art mass spectrometry assays and through better test utilization and interpretation. He is the chairman of the EFLM Working Group Postanalytical Phase and a member of the EFLM Working Group Preanalytical Phase.
